On October 17, 2026, the Ghanaian Women’s Association of Georgia (GWAG) will bring its members, supporters, friends, and partners together for Mothers Matter, a virtual fundraising event supporting GWAG’s mission to improve maternity care in Ghana. The free event will feature keynote speaker Dr. Kateena L. Addae-Konadu, MD, PhD, Chief of Maternal-Fetal Medicine, along with GWAG leaders, representatives from adopted maternity wards, and special guests. GWAG has set a fundraising goal of $30,000, with proceeds supporting its Maternity Ward Adoption Program.
The program addresses practical needs that can make maternity wards safer, more functional, and more dignified for mothers and newborns. GWAG has supported improvements including privacy screens, curtains, bedding, painting, and essential medical equipment at maternity facilities in Ghana. Its flagship adoption of the Elmina Hospital Maternity Ward demonstrates what sustained community support can accomplish, with more than $250,000 invested over the past decade.
Mothers Matter is an invitation to the wider community to become part of that impact. Whether through a donation, sharing the event, or encouraging others to participate, every action helps GWAG continue its work. Because mothers matter and improving the places where mothers give birth matters, too.
